Good Afternoon Medford Parents, Caregivers, Staff, and Students,

Despite the frigid forecast, the Medford Public Schools will be open for school tomorrow, Friday, February 3, 2023.

While the weather Friday looks to be bitterly cold, the schools have already begun to plan to address the potential issues of the day.  We have spoken with our bus contractor and they are confident they are prepared to handle the cold temperatures and the buses will be ready to go.  Additionally, our Facilities Department plans to maintain the heat for 24 hours in order to ensure that all school buildings are warm and welcoming to all.

The extreme cold is expected to arrive in the afternoon during dismissal time. For our students who walk, it is critically important that those children go directly home. Frostbite can take effect on exposed skin within 15 minutes, so it is imperative that everyone be dressed appropriately. Please review the link on frostbite to learn more about the signs and symptoms.

Students should be bundled up in multiple layers, including boots, hats, mittens and scarves, with particular attention to any exposed skin like the ears, face, and fingers. In these circumstances, a COVID-19 cloth mask or disposable mask can offer additional protection and warmth against frostbite. We intend to keep you updated as we continue to monitor the weather forecast reports.

The four elementary After School programs will be open as usual however, with the temperatures dropping significantly in the early evening, we ask families to plan accordingly.

Have a good evening and stay warm.

In Partnership for Children,

Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent
